Poker Game: Pot Limit Omaha
Most people only
know how to play one version of online
poker; this is too bad as there are lots of other great games out there. In
fact for beginners one of the best options is Pot Limit Omaha. This is a game
where skilled players get less of an advantage which makes it an ideal place to
learn the game and develop your skills before moving on to other variants.
Pot limit Omaha
is quickly becoming one of the most popular games in the world of poker. The
main reason for this is that the odds for an inexperienced player are better.
This is because luck plays a much bigger part in the game than it does in other
forms of poker online. One
of the other appeals is that it is a game in which large pots can be played
for. A lot of players are starting to realize that they cannot compete in games
of Hold’em because of all of the highly skilled players that are now playing
the game. They therefore frequently move into Pot Limit Omaha.
Omaha poker is a
lot like Hold’em in the way that it is played except that there are more cards
in play. Instead of being dealt two cards each player is dealt four cards,
there are then five community cards that are dealt. In games of Omaha your hand
has to be made up of two of the cards that you were dealt plus three of the
community cards. Therefore even if you are dealt four of a kind you will only
be able to use two of them to make your hand.
Play
a strategy that is more conservative :
As there are
more cards in poker you need to play poker with a different strategy for Pot
Limit Omaha than you would for Hold’em. The big thing that you have to keep in
mind here is that even if you are dealt a strong pair to start with your odds
will not be nearly as good as they would be in Hold’em. You therefore have to
play a strategy that is more conservative. You also have to keep in mind that
luck will play a bigger factor so you will likely not want to wager as much.
One thing that
confuses a lot of people about Pot Limit Omaha is the pot limit part. What this
means is that the amount that you can raise on each round of betting determined
by the total amount in the pot. You are in fact limited to raising the amount
that is in the pot. This means that the pot can grow exponentially which means
that very large pots can be played for. It also means that you have to adjust
your strategy because if you stay in you could quickly find yourself being
raised a lot more than you thought you would.
Happy playing!
